Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research is designed to investigate the feasibilty if using a prerequisite approach to create a methodology for assessing the education and training requirements for the effective implementation of manufacturing control systems. The advantages of such a knowledged based system methodology over conventional manual systems currently used for specifying education and training requirements will be assessed. The feasibility of creating a software tool which can be used, relatively quickly, to specify the education and training required by a company and prepare a realistic time plan, will be assesed. The processes used to specify the education and training requirements wull be studied. A theoretical framework will be created to elicit the knowledge from experts in industry. A knowledge base will be created, field tested and validated. A structural methodology will be created and incorporated into a computer based system. This will be followed by an evaluation of the overall methodology.
