Summary on Grant Application Form
Experiments will be performed with large arrays of -ray detectors, with and without heavy-ion spectrometers, to study near-yrast structures in nuclei and the dynamics of nuclear reactions. Nuclei at high angular momentum will be examined further and, for example, searches made for hyperdeformation. Nuclei with large excesses of neutrons will be examined via deep-inelastic reactions and fission, to determine shape trends and other influences of the high-isospin environment. Experiments to probe the charge and magnetisation distribution of radioactive ground states will continue at Jyvaskyla, and technical equipment developments continued at Manchester. The effort in radioactive beam studies will greatly increase as RIST and the ORNL accelerator come on-line.
