Summary on Grant Application Form
There is currently substantial interest in road pricing systems, advanced traffic control systems, and route guidance systems: for their potential to improve traffic operations, enhance mobility and safety, and reduce pollution and environmental impacts caused by moving vehicles. However, successful implementation of such systems will undoubtedly require a simulation model which is dynamic and sufficiently realistic in order to accurately replicate congestion. This project seeks to develop such a model. The model proposed will not only be able to assess any of these systems, but will also be able to design, as it will have built into it traffic control and road pricing strategies which are intended to reduce, amongst other thins, congestion.
