Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to synthesise a range of novel polymers as follows: - Cyclic polymers, polyrotaxanes and polycatenanes; - polymers for use in simple flow reactors for asymmetric synthesis; - high performance polymers via soluble 'precursor polymers'; and ultrathin organised polymeric films for SHG and as supramolecular structures. The materials synthesised will be analysed and their applications investigated. Where appropriate this will be through collaborations both in Manchester and outside Manchester. Current major collaborators are Dr J A Semlyen (York University), Dr P Lovell (UMIST), Dr R K Thomas (Oxford University) and Professor T King (Manchester University).
