Summary on Grant Application Form
To examine the repsonse of twin skin plastic reinforced panels to blast loading and to develop analytical tools for the design of such panels to withstand gas explosion blast loading. The analysis will consider the effects of inertial, stiffness, strength and construction including deformational and fractural modes of behaviour. The work has been divided into the following sections. (1) Experimental. (a) Material testing. (b) Manufacture of panels. (c) Explosive testing. (2) Theoretical. (a) Completion of the Equivalent layer Analysis (started in a previous project). (b) Software development. (c) Development of a modified sandwich theory. (3) Finite element modelling. (a) Damage model modification. (b) Modelling of delamination. (c) Modification of crushing model.
