Summary on Grant Application Form
This is a short research project aimed at quickly verifying, using permeation measurements, previously published work that shows that water sorption in carefully prepared oligomeric siloxanes is less than 1 ppm. The siloxanes will then be carefully polymerised and cross-linked to the form of elastomeric PDMS membranes whose permeation properties will again be measured. In this way the extent to which the water sorption properties of carefully prepared oligomers are carried over into the cross-linked polymerised structures, and the lifetime of such properties, will be investigated. The aim is to develop a water impermeable membrane that, however, permeates organic molecules.
