Summary on Grant Application Form
We wish to investigate the extension of the LAD technique to the growth of structures in a highly controlled layer by layer manner. This programme will require the development of a dedicated chamber which will be used in the first instance to grow films of the superconductor Nd1.85 CeO.15CuO4. In addition to the superconductor we wish to investigate the growth of a range of technologically interesting materials. These include such materials as MgO. CeO2, ZrO2 which can act as buffer layers on silicon. This section also includes ferroelectric (FET) films and gas sensor layers, although the buffer layer application will receive top priority.
