Summary on Grant Application Form |
A variety of approaches may be taken to the solution of the problem of the radiation source in the Terahertz gap. This Application requests support for a VF who will continue and extend his previous work (at Nottingham) directed towards the solution of this problem and commence work on another approach. One area (Plasmon and Magneto-Plasmon FIRE, on which he has already worked) is an example of a collective motion effect, whereas the other (optically pumped intersubband FIRE from n-GaAs/A1GaAs Qws) is interpreted in a single-particle fashion. The VF will complete the development of a FIRE spectometer at Nottingham. Optical and electrical pumping of samples will be attempted. Measurement of FIRE from QW and heterostructure samples will be undertaken, together with liaison with theorists and growers on layer design. The VF will continue collaborative work already started with colleagues at IST Tokyo and FELIX.
