Summary on Grant Application Form |
Linear and cyclic diblock and linear triblock copolymers will be prepared covering two chemical systems:(a) from ethylene oxide and 1, 2-butylene oxide; (b) from ethylene oxide and styrene oxide. At low temperatures the E-blocks are crystalline, the S-blocks are glassy, and the B-blocks are liquid (rubbery). At high temperatures all blocks are liquid. This combination of different chain architectures and physically-divergent microphases is expected to yield new and interesting effects. These will be detected by a wide variety of experimental probes, including simultaneous WAXS / SAXS / DSC, SANS, Raman and IR spectroscopy, rheometry and microscopy. The observed effects will be modelled phenomenologically and theoretically.
