Summary on Grant Application Form |
With past and current EPSRC support, the Principal Investigator has led since 1986 a successful series of research projects on the important problem of seismic torsional building response. The research has developed extensive fundamental understanding of the problem, and now requires formulation into specific design recommendations for code implementation, allied to the full introduction in 1998 of EC8.Funds are requested to travel and part subsistence costs associated with a proposed overseas Study Visit to the University of Naples, Italy. The visit aims to develop a new initiative in collaborative earthquake engineering research, to accelerate the achievement of the above aims. The link is expected to provide a basis for substantial future interaction between the two departments, leading in the medium term to joint funding applications to the EU. The meeting will set up as a workshop, to enable informal presentation of recent research on seismic torsional response, and future proposals from both sides. This will facilitate a detailed definition of collabortive research objectives, within the framework given in Section 6.
