|
The use of printing for the manufacture of diverse range of high technology products is a major new disruptive force of increasing International significance. The University based research in the UK is ahead in many of the areas, such materials, sensors and printing technology, but these are distributed across many Institutions. This project will create a sustainable network with regular meetings that will draw this mufti disciplinary research activity into a community.The academic community is complimented by a strong indigenous private sector industrial base, who will benefit from this network, by exposure to leading fundamental research. It includes a significant number of high technology SMEs who have the advantage of being able to respond quickly to new developments.In a seminar held by the DTI, companies in flexible displays and electronics identified that there was research in related fields that could provide the solution to their current problems. This led to the creation of the DTI funded industry based FLEXYNET network for flexible displays and electronics. There is synergy with FLEXYNET, but IMP network represents a broader range of interests, as befits a fundamental research driven network, in that it encompasses fields such sensors and life science.
