Summary on Grant Application Form
This project will furnish Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City primary schools with all the resources required (including a postdoctoral researcher to provide coordination, specialist teaching and act as a role model) to put on a full day event on the theme of human and animal movement. Further, much of the material created for this project will be available nationally for downloading from a dedicated website. It is expected that the postdoctoral coordinator will visit the school in advance of the day to meet the teaching staff, provide master copies of all teaching materials and learn how best to implement the activities. The themed day will have the following format:Assembly presentation to provide orientation about the day: and introduction to movement and the postdoctoral facilitator outline of some of the activities etc. This presentation will be in the form of multimedia presentation (media and script available for download).A multimedia display for the hall that will permit individual or organised discovery of different aspects of movement. This will be based around an interactive computer display and models/physical artefacts and activities. There will be activity guides tailored to the 3 Key Stages to guide exploration of the material.Normal class activities in all areas of the curriculum but with a movement theme.Class time with the postdoctoral researcher to provide a more specialised introduction into movement research. It is expected that there will be 2 foci for this activity: theme related learning and an introduction to university life and work. The entire project will be conducted in close cooperation with the staff of Crossdale Drive Primary School. The movement day will be trialled in both Crossdale Drive and an inner city primary. The materials and delivery will then be improved before wider dissemination within Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City.
