Summary on Grant Application Form
This request for travel funds is aimed at cementing a collaborative arrangement between the Fire Safety Engineering Group (FSEG) of the University of Greenwich and the Brazilian university, Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE) located in Recife. The proposed collaboration will address both universities common interests in fire safety engineering and will begin with the issue of the possible cultural influence on pre-movement times and evacuation behaviour. A full-scale evacuation experiment has been planned to take place in Brazil with the primary aim of collecting pre-movement times and evacuation behaviours. This experiment will be similar to an experiment conducted by FSEG in an equivalent environment using a similar population within the UK. It is planned to compare and contrast the results from these two experiments in a hope of shedding some light on possible cultural influences on pre-movement times and evacuation behaviour.
