Algebraic geometry is a key area of mathematical research. Since it came into existence in the middle of the 17 ' century, it has had many applications both inside and outside mathematics, due to its role in describing geometrical constructions in terms of algebraic equations. In the opposite direction the solutior of systems of algerbaic equations can be described geometrically, thus providing an additional level of insight.Systems of equations which have more solutions than the general system of the same type are always of special interest. The Brill-Nother loci and coherer systems of this proposal are an example of this phenomenon. The object of this proposal is to study a particular case of this and to obtain better geometric descriptions of the solutions. Although the work will be carried out in the context of algebraic geometry, it also has links with differential geometry and mathematical physics.The proposal will bring together two eminent researchers from Mexico and India to work on this project with the principal investigator in Liverpool. The work will take place over a period of one month and the total cost to the Council is 5900.
