Summary on Grant Application Form
The Supergen Consortium on Energy Storage and Recovery is very much at the centre of the overall Supergen programme. The development of improved short and long-term storage systems are fundamental to the introduction of distributed power systems powered by wind, marine, photovoltaic or biomass sources. The main drivers for this technology are the demands of improved transport systems coupled to inevitable changes in energy supply and demand, especially renewable energy technologies. For all of these applications there is a need to develop innovative new materials to improve not only power and energy densities but also to reduce costs and improve reliability. This consortium would fulfil the Supergen objectives of promoting innovative solutions and the collaboration of multidisciplinary academic teams working in partnership with appropriate stakeholders from industry, and would deliver an exciting collaborative programme of world-class research.
