Summary on Grant Application Form
The RODEOS projects primary aim is to provide knowledge transfer from the academic partners of the FRIDAY project to a new start ip company, Zinwave Ltd. Here by using new technology recently developed by Cambridge University and University College London, fibre distribution systems will be developed for a range of wireless applications. Through this project, it is proposed to second the FRIDAY research assistant at Cambridge to work with the company. This person has become expert in the new technology and is therefore in a unique position to enable technically the development of the current research prototypes into commercial products. he also however has become expert in simulating the systems, this allowing their likely range of applications to be assessed. This is regarded as important as currently a wide range of applications exist with different performance requirements in fields including antenna remoting, in-building distributed antenna systems and wireless LAN. As a result, he will be able to contribute directly to a commercial market analysis to be carried out by the company, seeking to identify precisely its best initial product strategies. This project will also provide training and experience opportunities to the Research Assistant within the context of a fast moving start up environment. This will include training and workshops provided by the Cambridge University Entrepreneurship Centre on topics such as marketing, team building, budgeting etc. (http://www.enterprise.cam.ac.uk/) as well as commercial skills within the company, including project management skills, production engineering, budget management and marketing.
