Summary on Grant Application Form
This international network will bring together academic and industrial researchers tram the UK, China, Germany. Israel, Japan, Russia. Sweden and USA to build a new mufti-disciplinary community covering the broad aspects of vibro-impact systems (VIS). VIS are mechanical systems with multiple impact interactions that occupy a prominent position in machine dynamics, vibration engineering, and structural mechanics, and have a vast spectrum of diverse applications (e.g., advanced machining and fragmentation technologies for intractable materials). The aim of this network proposal is to provide a dedicated forum for communication and exchange of ideas for researchers of various areas - dynamics, applied mathematics, mechanics of materials, control, physics, materials science, acoustics, mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering - to foster an integrated approach to interlinked phenomena and to accelerate introduction of novel technologies based on VIS. The network will be open to new members, with activities driven by the community, It is anticipated that this international co-operation will result in collaborative research grant proposals, joint authored books and papers and new advanced postgraduate courses. The long-term goal of the planned network is to initiate the International Centre of Vibro-Impact Systems to allow the Network to achieve self-sufficiency after the initial funding period, and a new series of international conferences under its aegis. Intensive exchanges between members both at the national and international levels, organisation of four Thematic Workshops and the EUROMECH Colloquiumwill form a sound basis to achieve the networks objectives.
