Summary on Grant Application Form
A recent and unexpected finding suggests that the selectivity of partial oxidation products from propene oxidation oven silver can be altered through the type of oxygen supplied (gaseous or electrochemical). This proposal is concerned with the investigation and explanation of this effect. Using continuo and pulse experiments and ultimately employing isotopically labelled oxygen, it is proposed to study the different pathways of oxygen in the Propene/O2 system. An explanation of the electrochemical promotion and modification of selectivity in this system will be attempted using the modified theories of Vayenas and Metcalfe.
