Summary on Grant Application Form
Nature based antenna design involves the application of natural processes, such as fractals, genetic algorithms and neural networks, to the design of antennas. Professor Douglas Wemer has an international reputation in this area. The Communications Engineering group at Birmingham have a strong activity in antennas and have already considerable experience in design of fractal antennas for specific applications, such as mobile communication terminals. This collaborative research programme is based around the complimentary nature of Professor Werner's innovative approach to antenna design and the highly application driven research done by the Birmingham group. We believe that this collaboration will benefit both sides and lead to new types of antennas that will break out of conventional classifications and yet will impact on both current and future communications systems requirements.
