Summary on Grant Application Form
The main novelty of the proposed research during Dr Tsang's secondment involves physical entrapment of a small quantity of n-octanol droplets as nano-reactors and entrapping protein or enzyme molecules (no covalent linkage that will affect the binding structure) by the porous over-layer of the magnetic composites for the rapid evaluation of physicochemical parameters in aqueous media as a new high throughput method using magnetic separation. This will involve nano-engineering/synthesis of porous coating of tailored pore size, dimensions, surface affinity, volume for the physical storage of solvent droplets and develop instrument(s) & data handling system to acquire these physicochemical parameters (logD & binding constant) of a drug compound by UV-vis (or fluorescent) quantification using magnetic separation in a robot friendly manner.
