Summary on Grant Application Form
Describe the proposed research using (about 200) words geared to the non-specialist reader.Isomeric states are states which exist in a nucleus for longer than normal. There are several reasons that this might occur and one involves the difference between the direction of the angular momentum vector of the state which is decaying and the one it is decaying to. Such a scenario is known as K-isomerism. K-isomers have been studied extensively in the A--180 and A-130 regions of nuclei. The proposed work will complete a measurement on 125Sb and enable the decay of its isomeric states to be analysed in detail. Currently the data is ambiguous and so no detailed conclusions can be drawn about the structure of the states.
