Summary on Grant Application Form
This application is for funds to hold an International Centre for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) Workshop on Spatial Stochastic Modelling in Telecommuniations. The theme of the workshop will be the study of the probability theory of spatial modelling, with particular applications to telecommunications networks. This field is one of the most important areas of application of modem probability theory, where network topology is crucial to understanding and improving the performance of large-scale networks such as the Internet, and where spatial interaction plays the central role in the design and performance of wireless and mobile networks. The workshop will take place at the ICMS in Edinburgh from 7-10 June 2004. There will be approximately 23 invited participants, all of whom will speak. These will come mainly from the UK, the European Community and the USA. We are seeking funds to cover most of their expenses. Additionally the ICMS will pay for a small number of further attendees, mostly from within the UK, and we will invite a number of able UK research students. The workshop will be organised by S. Zachary and S Foss (both Heriot-Watt) with the participation of F. Baccelli (ENS, Paris), T. Konstantopoulos (Patras, Greece), L. Massoulie (Microsoft Research, Cambridge) and S. Zuyev (Strathclyde).
