Summary on Grant Application Form
During three weeks trip to the USA Professors Victor Starov will visit three US Universities : the University of Texas at Austin (UT), Carnegie-Mellon University (CMU) and Yale University (YU) to develop parallel proposals to NSF and EPSRC with Professor Lloyd (UT) and develop plans for a future collaboration on electrokinetic phenomena and wetting phenomena between three Universities (LU, CMU and YU). Professor Victor Starov and Professor Douglas Lloyd (UT) will develop two joint research programmes on (1) modification of ultrafiltration membranes using thermal stretching; (2) predictions of ultra- and microfiltration membrane performance based on their properties. Two parallel proposals on each programme will be developed for submission to NSF and EPSRC, respectively. Prof Victor Starov will make a presentation at the Department of Chemical Engineering, UT. At CMU Professors Victor Starov and John Anderson (CMU) will develop a programme of joint research on electrokinetic phenomena in the presence of gel layers on the surface of colloidal particles. At the same time Professor Starov will give a presentation at the International Electrokinetics Conference, Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, where Prof Starov is a Member of the Technical Advisory Committee. Professor V Starov and Professor John Waltz (YU) will develop a plan for a future collaboration between three Universities (LU, CMU and YU) on electrokinetic phenomena in the presence of gel layers. At Yale University Prof Starov will give a presentation (invited lecture) at 78th ACS Colloid & Surface Science Symposium, YU.
