The proposal requests EPSRC support to ensure that the UK is adequately represented at a forthcoming International Workshop on The Future of Materials Science and Engineering Education to be organised by Engineering Conferences International (formerly United Engineering Foundation). This meeting addresses the international mismatch between low student enrollment in Materials courses and the growing demand for materials research. Participation in this important meeting will have the dual aims of learning from the experience of other countries and in influencing international approaches by demonstrating the successes of recent and current UK materials teaching and learning initiatives.
