Summary on Grant Application Form
The successful outcome of the proposed project will deliver a novel multiwafer reactor system capable of mass production free standing GaN substrates suitable for the manufacturing of blu-ray DVD laser diodes. The equipment itself and the GaN production technology will significantly advance the state-of-art in HYPE system and GaN substrates manufacturing (current price US$5000 per 2 inch GaN wafer). There is no commercia multiwafer HYPE system on the market yet. In developing the novel GaN production system a novel highly intensive and compact heat exchange ur will be developed. This unit is the key element of the reactor system, ensuring the quality of the produced GaN substrate, and high utilisation of the reactants. The latter is important from the point of vew of environmental performance and cost of the GaN deposition technology (i.e. resource efficiency and low emissions). The heat exchange unit will be produced as a 3D structured cross flow device with high heat exchange surface area. Nanofluids will be used as heat transfer fluids to ensure sufficient rate of heat removal.
