Summary on Grant Application Form
Groups arise throughout Science and Mathematics as groups of symmetries of physical objects and of mathematical structures. For example the molecule c60 (Buckminster Fullerene) has 60 rotational symmetries. Many scientists and mathematicians use Group Theory and Computer Algebra systems such as Gap and Magma to make the results of Group Theory available to the wider scientific community. One important contribution of these Computer Algebra systems is to provide databases of Groups. Our objective is to construct a database of one particular family of groups [Those of order p^7] and that can be accessed by these systems.
