Summary on Grant Application Form
We aim to run a three year Festival of Science, which will become a major annual scientific activity for the Bath region. The Festival will also be a focus for a co-ordinated series of projects with schools in the Bath area, linked to schools much further a-field using video conferencing. The Festival will have three days of hands-on activities for primary/secondary school pupils and the general public. These displays will be designed and run both by the University ( and other) researchers and also by (carefully trained) school children. There will be a series of high level lectures at various local educational establishments given by leading scientific experts. We will also have an evening celebrating the links between science, art and drama. The activities of the festival will be followed up with a series of projects in schools (linked with other schools via video conferencing and the Internet) which will be displayed on a dedicated website linked to the NRICH site. The media will be encouraged to follow the work with the schools and attend the festival.
