Summary on Grant Application Form
Chiral liquid crystals for microdisplays and light scattering devices is of growing interest in the displays and photonics commercial sectors, for example in the development and commercialisation of displays for use in the eyepieces of digital cameras. This proposal thus has two primary goals, (i) the development of high tilt (45*) antiferroelectric materials for use in light scattering devices, and (ii) the exploitation of a new device concept invented under EPSRC grant GR/N28269 for use in ferroelectric liquid crystal microdisplays. We propose therefore to be involved in the technology transfer of discoveries made under GR/N28269 from academia to the industrial sector for evaluation of their commercial value. We propose to achieve technology transfer through a RAIS secondment and accompanying training programme.
