Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is concerned with taking a normative systems approach to the problem of self-organization in ad hoc networks. In particular, we propose to develop a logically sound, and computationally grounded, theoretical framework for institutional management of, and selforganization in, ad hoc networks. In particular this demands the formal representation of a variety of normative concepts (in the first instance, permissions, obligations and institutional powers; but also, in this project, contractual and quasi-contractual duties and rights, arrogation and abrogation of power, appointment of surrogates, and delegation mechanisms). Each component in the ad hoc network is aware of its individual normative relations vis-a-vis other components, and uses this to manage its position within the network and its contribution to the overall application.
