Summary on Grant Application Form
In the XenoServers project we are building a resource-managed execution environment that provides a robust platform for public wide-area distributed computing. This provides an excellent foundation on which to build end-to-end pervasive services: each XenoServer integrates fine-grained resource allocation with usage-accounting and audit-trail generation. We now propose to extend our work on the XenoServers platform to encompass the systems necessary for supporting, controlling and managing networks of XenoServers as a substrate for flexible end-to-end services. In particular we will focus on questions of how to federate groups of XenoServers deployed by different communities, how to provide effective controls over jobs as they execute (or migrate) within the network and how to integrate the low-level programming environment offered by XenoServers with higher-level abstractions such as those developed elsewhere in the Programmable Networks Initiative - for instance through our links with the University of Sussex and Intel Research.
