Over the last two years, we have been working on the measurement of two nuclear reactions which are key to understanding nucleosynthesis in novae, X-ray bursters and supernovae. Both require the use of newly developed radioactive beams. The first involves breakout from the Hot-CNO cycle through the 18Ne((X,p)21Na reaction which will be carried out at the TRIUMF laboratory inCanada. The second involves a study of the 18F((X,p)21Ne reaction which is a possible candidate source of neutrons for the r-process, which will be carried out at the cyclotron facility at Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium. Approval of beamtime on the two international facilities has been obtained from their scientific advisory committees, the experimental equipment has been designed and tested with stable beams and the experiments using the radioactive beams will be carried out this summer. Funds are sought to extend the current 24 month contract of the PDRA involved in this work to enable the analysis of the data to be completed and the work published.
