Work will involve the synthesis of chiral/non-chiral-dioxmolybdenum (VT) and chiral/ncnchiral-manganese (III) compounds containing bidentate and tetradentate chiral/non-chiral organic ligands of the types, [MOOZ(L)]x n or [MrKL)lln- by the reaction of metal salt and appropriate ligand with defined molar ratio. We have already prepared the sodium salt of chiral dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex, Na2MoO2(LL)z, by the interaction of the molybdate ion and a bidentate O-O donor ligand in an aqueous phase. Work is currently underway to synthesise other dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes containing O-0, NS, N-O-S and ON, donor chiral/non-chiral ligands. Synthesis of hydrotalcte-like compounds by intercalation of above compounds into Zn(II)-AI(III) or other LDH's by direct and indirect methods. We have already successfully intercalated the above dioxomolybdenum into Zn(II)-AI(IU) LDH via an organic-anion-pillared layered hydroxide prepared at room temperature. Preparation of other catalysts is also underway.These compounds will then be intecelated into hydrotalcite layered double hydroxide (LDH) and the appropriate characterisation of these solids performed Finally studies will be carved o4 of the layered solids as heterogeneous catalysts for epoxidation using air or molecular oxygen in the liquid phase reaction of indene and other model alkenes. The stability and recyclablity of these catalysts will be studied
