Summary on Grant Application Form
Recently, there has been considerable interest in the area of wireless sensor networks from real-time tracking to ubiquitous computing where users interact with potentially large numbers of small embedded low power wireless devices. This proposal centers on the study of foundational algorithms for programmable wireless sensor networks and requests support from Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) for my Sabbatical year in the UK where I will conduct this investigation with Professor Jon Crowcroft (Cambridge University) and David Hutchison (Lancaster University). We plan to study the design of system support for a new class of applications emerging in sensor networks that call for reliable data delivery, congestion control, and new middleware for service creation and management of wireless sensor networks. In addition, to conducting this research at Cambridge and Lancaster I plan on visiting a number of other UK Principle Investigators working in the field of programmable networks and wireless networking. Results from this proposed study on programmable sensor networks could serve as input to the EPSRC's initiative on programmable networks.
