Summary on Grant Application Form
The applicants' existing Platform Grant has made very substantial progress in all areas studied and has provided a clear new focus for the investigators' research. High achievements in international standing, added value, funding, strategic development and management have been made. Building on these developments the applicants now propose to research four linked areas that have the possibility of high impact in both fundamental understanding, applications and product development: (a) molecular dynamic simulations of membrane separations and related processes, (b) porous polymeric structures with bespoke morphologies for tissue engineering, drug delivery and high performance microfiltration, (c) near-spinodal product formation from doubly-metastable liquids, and (d) AFM studies of cellular microbiomechanics and microrheology of fluid films and biofilms. The grant will be used to provide a strategic base for the advancement of these areas as well as allowing the retention of key experienced staff and the nurturing of the careers of younger reseachers.
