Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is aimed at elucidation of the dynamic processes in polymer-solvent systems (diffusion and induced crystallisation) via FTIR Imaging spectroscopy. This method relies on the ability of the Infrared array detector to simultaneously measure spectra from 4096 different locatons in a sample. FTIR imaging spectroscopy will be applied to study the diffusion of the solvent into syndiotactic polystyerene (sPS) with simultaneous information on the solvent-induced morphological changes in sPS. A broader aim is to facilitate the use of spectroscopic imagine technology for polymer processing by revealing the underlying principles of polymer/solvent interactions. The funding is sought for the support of the Visiting Fellowship that will enable Dr Gupper to visit our laboratories for the period of 12 month to study dynamic processes in polynmer-systems via FTIR Imaging.
