Summary on Grant Application Form
We intend to combine periodically nanostructured metal films with nonlinear optical materials in order to create a new type of artificial nonlinear materials with nonlinear properties governed by field enhancement effects in the metallic structure. Such metamaterials will provide a possibility for flexible engineering the spectral response, achieving nonlinear effects at very low light intensities, and controlling optical properties of resulting nonlinear twodimensional photonic crystals with light and applied external fields.
