Summary on Grant Application Form
A new method for studying inital-boundary value problems for integrable nonlinear evolution PDEs in one space dimension has been recently developed by the Pl. An advantage of this method is that it yields the solution in terms of a Riemann-Hilbert problem with EXPLICIT x, t dependence. This makes it possible to analyse effectively the long time asymptotics of the solution employing the rigorous and powerful methold of Deift and Zhou. We propose to implement this method in the case that the prescribed boundary condition is a PERODIC function of t. We expect to be able to confirm the numerical and experimental evidence for a continuous generation of solitons.
