Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this research is to develop a new set of spectroscopic and transport tools to investigate the response of biomolecules to high frequency excitations, and incorporates two complimentary programmes. These are 1) An on chip THz system in which pulses of THz frequency radiation will be used to investigate conformational changes in biomolecules placed on filter structures and 2)Development of sutface acoustic wave technology for electron transport in biomolecules in which a surface acoustic wave propaging in a piezolectric material will be used to controllably transport electrons through molecular species placed in close proximity avoiding problems of the high electrical impedance implicit in transport studies. This project is linked to the first for comparative studies of on chip THz diagnosis of biomolecular species with in situ acoustoelectric transport studies
