Summary on Grant Application Form
Algebraic geometry is concerned with the solution of a certain type of systems of equations; these occur in many situations and potentially have many applications. Although the equations are in principle quite simple, in practice they are difficult to solve and have led to very rich, but also very technic mathematical structures. This proposal concerns a topic in algebraic geometry which is currently attracting a good deal of attention, and is related to work in differential geomel and theoretical physics. The object is to invite Professor Herbert Lange to Liverpool to continue with joint work with the investigator; the visit will take place in August 2003. We intend to complete work started in Erlangen in 2002 on coherent systems on curves of genus 0 and 1.
