Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this ground breaking project is to continue to explore the electrochemical property of the gas phase ions by considering ionised gaseous environment of a flame as a dilute electrolyte. The work carried out in UCL has lead to the establishment of a new area of electrochemical reseach which it is hoped will creat a new field of plasma electrochemistry. The focus of this proposal is divided into two: (1) measure electrochemical potentials at zero current in the absence of free electrons and make correlations with thermodynamic data derived using traditional techniques and (2) to develop dynamic electrochemistry in gaseous plasma to build up a knowledge base that will eventually lead to industrially important applications. Support is requested for three years for a PDRA to work on an already existing purpuse built flame electrochemistry rig.
