|
This application seeks partial but important support for two key items in the 2003 Convention of the Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence and the Simulation of Behaviour (SSAISB). These are, expenses for invited international keynote speakers and bursaries for postgraduate research students. The sum requested is 14,170 consisting of 7370 to support five keynote speakers and 6800 for bursaries for 40 students.This meeting will be especially important for British researchers who work in fields relating to the AIBACS Programme, as the 2003 convention will consist of five parallel symposia focussing on the theme: Cognition in Machines and Animals . The invited speakers are all international authorities who will enormously enhance the programme and generate much intellectual excitement through state-of-the-art contributions in their respective fields.The SSAISB operates as a non-profit organisation for the benefit and development of its members. A particular emphasis is the society's encouragement of students and postgraduates into research. The second component of this application is for student bursaries to allow a significant proportion of research students to attend and thereby benefit from close interaction with some of the key players in their research field. This will be a learning experience that will significantly contribute to their training; it will further stimulate their own work and aid in their development as researchers.
