Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is to organise and operate a Mathematics Biomedical Network in Scotland. This will promote a wider understanding of the state of the art in this general area within the relevant communities, academic, medical and industrial. It will lead to greater collaboration between applied mathematicians, bioscientists and clinicians leading to better research and application of skills and expertise. The network will operate through a sequence of meetings and workshops on topics selected by a management committee. Additionally, there will be a programme of eminent visitors and a large number of impromptu brain-storming sessions. The subjects of the meetings will be such that both information dissemination and project identification will be encouraged. The network will raise worldwide awareness of the biomedical and mathematical communities through attendance at meetings, publications and a website. The network will initially be based on four existing groups in Scotland. These groups are research-orientated and tend to focus on different but complementary areas of the biological and medical disciplines.
