Summary on Grant Application Form
We will analyse the conditioning of discrete elliptic boundary element and finite element systems when the underlying mesh is refined in an anisotropic manner, such as is required when the solution has an edge singularity or interior or boundary layers.W e will devise preconditioners for these systems which (a) remove the effect of the anisotropy of the mesh and (b) remove the effect of the discretisation.
