Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research will develop application-level services based on the OGSA framework and building upon OGSA core services. Whilst currer work in the Grid computing community is adequately addressing issues such as security and extensibility, less attention has been paid to the composition of services to develop applications and to enabling service discovery and optimisation. The proposed research will allow scientists to develop applications by composing existing services that make use of distributed resources. This will be done through a problem-solving environment (PSE) that automatically defines service relationships and dependencies in the form of an annotated workflow graph. The PSE will also help scient to make services available via Grid, and support logging of service usage. Workflow optimisation is an important aspect of the proposed research is aimed at dynamically selecting the best schedule of services to execute a composite service-based application according to some set of userspecified criteria.
