Summary on Grant Application Form
This is a proposal for a 5-month Visiting Fellowship for Assoc. Prof. Cem Bozsahin, of the Computer Engineering department, Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey. The aim of the proposed joint research is to extend earlier work on word order, case and CCG towards a formal and computational theory of the combinatory lexicon including grammatical relations and surface case. The proposed research aims: a) to develop this theory;b) to demonstrate the theory computationally by building representative lexical fragments for English and Turkish;c) to lay the groundwork for a future project to automatically extract such lexicons from labeled corpora, along lines laid down in Hockenmaier and Steedman 2002a, 2002b (see Previous Research Track Record ).
