Panel History:
Summary on Grant Application Form
Unsteady aerodynamics directly affects the performance and safety of aircraft, but inability to predict these complex phenomena has led to performance and cost penalties in the past. Recent advances in computing and methods have opened the opportunity of better prediction and simulation, and PUMA was formed in 1999 partly to exploit this opportunity. The work at Manchester will examine methods for predicting and characterising non-linear aeroelastic behvaiour using commercaially available codes as well as the development of new Reduced Order Methods. Other items of interest will be the consideration of the flutter clearance of non-linear aircraft , the prediction of LCO behaviour for aircraft with stores, and the prediction of non-linear aeroservoleastic behaviour.
