Summary on Grant Application Form
The Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Sheffield is currently without any in-house facilities for NMR studies, relying on the Department of Chemistry NMR service for help. We have been offered a 200 MHz Varian superconducting NMR spectrometer free of charge. Its market value is approximately 120k +VAT and so represents a valuable acquisition for the department. Its acquisition would enhance tremendously our research capabilities in a number of areas of chemical engineering. However, in order to benefit from this offer we require funding for relocation and commissioning of the instrument, and technical support and service contract for the first twelve months of operation, after which the department will take on the funding of the technical post. It is envisaged that the new instrument will impact on a number of new research directions in Chemical Engineering, including Micro Reactor Engineering, Catalyst Engineering, Polymer Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering and Environmental Engineering.
