Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposer of this application is the lead investigator of a mega-project for which an Expressin of Interest has been submitted to the European Commission for the Framework-6 programme. Due to the scale of the project, its innovation and the need for integration of a muliplicity of disiciplines, the proposed project is most appropriate for the Framework-6 programme. The purpose of the travel grant is to build a strong team that is required to support and undetake the proposed Framework-6 mega-project. The travel grant is in the light of the government's intention to assist UK-based institutions to take a lead in obtaining European fundings (please see attached EPSRC March 2002). However, the project relies heaviliy on the contribution and comittment of a diversity of expertise. The proposer has preqaulified 20 pottential partners from his extensive list of the contacts, but the travel grant is required to support two separate chain of visits to 20 destinations in 9 European countries in order to qualify the individuals, their department and institution against a predetermined set of criteria. Further, the collective knowledge and effort of all partners will help to reinforce the quality and strength of the full application for the Framework-6 integrated projects 'instrument'.
