Summary on Grant Application Form
It is proposed that during the period 20-27 July, 2002, Dr. J.R. Banerjee visits two universities in Sydney, Australia, namely, the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney, which have both strong experimental and theoretical research base in the area of Dr. Banerjee's research interests. It is intended that first he visits the School of Material Science and Engineering of the University of New South Wales where he will have extensive technical discussions with Professor A. Crosky and Dr. S. Bandyopadhyay who are accomplished research workers on Composite Materials. He will take particular interest in visiting the composite laboratories and be concerned with the theoretical as well as experimental aspects of composites. Then he will visit the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering of the same University to have a detailed discussion with Professor D.W. Kelly who is a specialist in the application of composite materials in aerospace structures. This will be followed by a visit to the Applied Mechanic Division of the School where Dr. Banerjee will hold exploratory talks with Professor R. Ford and Dr. S. Kanapathipillai on various aspects of free vibration and response analysis of metallic and composite structures. Next he will visit the University of Sydney and spend most of his time in the Department of Aerospace, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering: He will meet Dr. L. Tong and Professor K. Rasmussen to discuss static, dynamic and buckling characteristics of metallic and composite structures. A visit tr. the laboratory will be an essential part of the activity.
