Summary on Grant Application Form
The Integrated project (IP) on smart multifunctional composite materials and structures (SMARTCOM) is designed to reinforce, stimulate and improve the scientific and technological research in the field of smart composite materials and structures. The main objective of the IP will be the development of light-weight structural composite materials with self-assessing damage detection, self-repair, automatic shape changing (morphing) capabilities and optimal vibration characteristics for a variety of applications. Since the number of partners is large (see case for support) considerable UK and European travel will be involved in order to meet and discuss/explore many of these ideas with the ultimate aim to create an effective partnership that will enable us to submit a winning proposal.
